Marrying in a church in Venice means choosing a sacred space for your marriage service in the world’s most romantic city. Especially if you live outside the city and have chosen Venice as the destination in which to say ‘I do’ for ever, it is even more important to choose your location with care.
Imagine that most of your guests come to discover Venice for the first time; they will remember your wedding day with even greater empathy. For this reason, the church you choose will also be significant.
First of all, you should know that one has to follow a special protocol to have a religious ceremony in Venice. Apart from practising the service, you must understand there is also the requirement to explain the reasons (and they must be strongly justifying grounds) that have incited you to marry in a church in Venice (obviously I can help you in this regard!).
There are some churches that I can suggest to you with more confidence than others, for the pathos and the beauty they are able to convey. If you are thinking of organising an intimate and confidential marriage, with subdued lighting and a restrained atmosphere, a handful of guests and lots of tears to share, I can recommend the Crypt of St Mark’s. Emotional, spiritual, in the heart of the city, yet capable of accommodating a confidential and romantic ceremony.
Another truly beautiful church (and greatly loved for religious weddings in Venice) is Santa Maria dei Miracoli; its Renaissance style and it decoration entirely of exquisite multi-hued marble makes it stand out among the city’s churches. If you are looking for a church that really has a WOW effect, this is the one I recommend. It hits you in the heart and it will really stamp itself on the memories of your guests.
But if you are dreaming of a church wedding in Venice that is more imposing, scenic, and that catches the eye at first glance, there is the church of the Santissimo Redentore. Welcoming and naturally well lit, it is more luminous than many other churches of the city on the lagoon.
Finally, if you like the idea of a religious service in Venice, facing out onto the Lagoon environment; if you dream this will bring out the significance and refinement of your service, you will be satisfied by the setting of the Jesuit church of Santa Maria del Rosario.
